Starting in 1975, SAIL Amsterdam has since grown into the largest public event in the Netherlands and the largest freely accessible nautical event in Europe. Every five years, more than 600 ships sail through the North Sea Canal to dock in and around the IJ harbor. You can admire the impressive Tall Ships from the waterside or GVB ferries.
SAIL takes place in and around the IJ and the Oranjehaven (IJ harbor) at walking distance from Central Station. Unlike previous years, the event has spread to other parts of the city. This year, the event will also take place in and around the NDSM wharf and in the center of Amsterdam.
The NDSM wharf is easily reached using the NDSM ferry.
