Sustainability
GVB is actively committed to being a sustainable company. Numerous measures have been introduced to save energy and be environmentally conscious in the handling of materials. For example, there is energy efficient lighting in most workplaces and we photocopy with environmentally friendly inks. And, naturally, our vehicles are economical and environmentally friendly.
Public transportation that runs well makes the city an attractive place for residents, workers and holiday visitors. It also contributes to a healthier living environment (air quality).
What does GVB do exactly?
Trams and metros run on green power and we are getting even more very clean buses .
A test of
two hybrid fuel cell buses contributes to the acquisition of knowledge and valuable experience on running sustainable public transportation on hydrogen.
Recovery of electricity: the braking energy of the Combino tram is fed back to the overhead power network and this saves energy.
Re-use of washing water from washes: the water from the washes is re-used for the vehicles whenever possible.
Environmentally approved cleaning agents: to minimize impact on the environment, all new cleaning agreements for buildings require that ecologically approved cleaning materials are used that have the maximum biodegradability possible.
The "New Driving" method Anticipatory driving is a part of the training given for driving bus, tram, and metro. This is known as "New Driving" method. In addition to improving traffic safety and trip comfort for passengers and driver, it also reduces consumption of fuel.
